Video killed the radio star

I remember when this song first came out. (Don’t say it – I’ll always be part of the coolest generation, no matter how old I get).

And it did. Video changed the influence of radio stars. Because of the focus on appearance & not voice, among other things.

I used to let that same principle affect me in business.

There’s actually a word for this phenomenon: it’s called Comparison.

But comparison kills ingenuity & I would prefer to be unique. Being different is actually what’s got me through most of my life:

  • Biracial in a small, West Texas town
  • Fatherless
  • Left football because of a jerk coach (where football is king) for soccer
  • Said No to to a Div-I school and instead chose a Div-II school because a loved one died
  • Went pro from a school where that shouldn’t have happened (& from a town where it had never happened)
  • Started a business everyone said would never work
  • Taught others how to achieve in soccer & life

Now I teach others to do these same things in life & business.

The list could go on…

What’s up

Each month there is a new scary story on social media about how it’s the end of the world (as we know it)…but I feel fine. (I know – I’m killin’ it with the music today).

Wanna know why?

It’s the same reason why this mega-business announced in early 2018 that they’re reverting back to old-school postcards.

It’s also the same reason that ESBA has been so successful as an offline company in a digital age (although yes, now we’re online so we can help more of you at once).

The reason: Relationships.

It’s not just because there are TEDx talks generating buzz around this concept or that we realize suddenly that people need people.

Or that we’re the most isolated generation while being the most (technologically) connected one.

It’s that looking at you as the individual – with your own strengths, purpose, value & story and then leveraging that into amazing, PAYING opportunities is the secret to our success. To YOUR success.

After all, who can do you better than anyone else? Hint: no one.

GET BUSY

If you haven’t already taken the Strengthsfinders test, get the book & get going. New books have a code inside to take the test for free.

The better you walk in the truth of who you are (& these are good things – none of that negative talk) the better you’ll convey your message to others – in your walk, talk & message.

The clearer the message = the higher the sales.

PS: Hey Skimmer: Take the test. Learn about your strengths. You’re going to need this to move forward.
